Abstract (EN)

Recurrent lower urinary tract infection is a repeated form of urinary tract infection, and it is a common health problem, especially in women. Prevalence studies, in particular, provide important findings in determining the risk factors in the community. Identifying risk factors can limit the recurrence of lower urinary tract infections and guide the development of preventive interventions for the disease. Based on all these aspects, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of recurrent lower urinary tract infections in women. The research was conducted with a descriptive cross-sectional design involving 405 female participants. The data were collected using a questionnaire about the disease directed at the participants. SPSS 25.0 was used for data analysis. When the research findings were examined, it was observed that the majority of participants were women aged 33 and under. Most participants had experienced at least one urinary tract infection in their lifetime. It was found that 70% of the participants did not use any preventive methods, and the incidence of urinary tract infections was parallel to the presence of existing diseases and pregnancy. It was determined that 28.6% of the women had recurrent lower urinary tract infections. When the urinary system complaints of the female participants were surveyed, it was found that 64.6% had vaginal discharge, 69.2% had odor in the urine, 52.3% had burning during urination, 49.2% had frequent urination, 47.7% had the feeling of urgency to urinate, and 16.9% had pain symptoms. As a result of the research findings, it was concluded that women, who form the foundation of a healthy society, should be made aware of the importance of personal care and hygiene, and they should be encouraged to incorporate what they learn during the education and awareness process into their daily lives.
