Abstract (EN)

In this research, it is aimed to evaluate the views of education managers about women becoming education managers in the context of gender. The research was conducted with the phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, and the interview technique was applied. In the research, a semi-structured interview form prepared by scanning the relevant literature and taking expert opinions was used. A total of 21 participants, including 13 principals, 8 assistant principals contributed to the study. The interviews were conducted face-to-face and lasted a total of 265 minutes. The data recorded with a voice recorder during the interview were written down in a computer environment. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and content analysis method. In the research, findings on the reasons for the low number of female managers in educational institutions, the impact of gender on choosing management, the opinions of educational employees about female managers, the impact of being a manager on domestic duties and responsibilities, the areas where women managers are challenged in management, the reactions that women receive from the environment during the process of becoming a manager have been obtained. According to the findings obtained in the research, it has been concluded that long working hours and gender roles that place the responsibility for household chores and childcare on women have an impact on the low number of female managers in educational institutions. However, it has been concluded that female education managers receive negative reactions from their surroundings during the process of becoming managers, encounter gender-related obstacles, generally see positive attitudes from male managers and teachers, while they see negative attitudes from their peers, being a manager negatively affects domestic duties and responsibilities. In order to be able to involve women teachers more in education management, the phrase women's priority in the education manager appointment regulation can be translated into the phrase women's obligation and the necessary arrangements can be made. Educational management-themed courses can be added to the curriculum of the faculty of education, paving the way for early awareness of educational management.
