Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is; to investigate how the perception of body and femininity changes in different periods such as menstruation, pregnancy, maternity, living diseases related to reproductive health and menopause period and to examine the factors affecting these perceptions with a gender perspective. The study was conducted with 39 female participants in Adana Balcalı Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Service. As data collection tools within the scope of the research; The semi-structured qualitative interview form, the information form that determines the demographic characteristics, the Self-Esteem scale, the Oxford Happiness scale, and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory factors. According to the research result; it has been seen that participants often feel regretful because they are women, and it is seen that women identify the most important success in their lives as being a good mother and wife. While women share less of their menstrual period with those around them, they share a higher level of entry into the menopause period. On the other hand, entry into the period of mentoring is defined as productivity in terms of femininity, state of being female, while entry into the menopause period is defined as maleization and departure from femininity. The increase of education and economic level increases the self esteem, psychological stability level and happiness level of women. Violence, early marriage and pregnancy decrease the self esteem, psychological stability and happiness level of women. The results show that women are in different perceptions at different times. In particular, physiological situations of femininity appear to be perceived as dirty, bad and incomplete even by women themselves, in direct proportion to stereotypes based on gender roles. Psychosocial support by taking into account the perceptions specific to these periods will be beneficial.
