The role of the woman culture and art centers of Çorum Municipality in the socialization of women

The aim of our study, "The Role of the Woman Culture and Art Centers of Çorum Municipality in the Socialization of Women", is to examine the role of the Woman Culture and Art Centers. Çorum Municipality built these centers as a tool to promote socialization of women in the context of social municipality. There are no academic studies on the socialization of women and the role of services provided by the municipality among the studies conducted in Çorum. This thesis aims to fill the gap in the literature regarding to women of Çorum and their socialization. Our study comprises the effect of Çorum Municipality Woman Culture and Art Centers on the socialization of adult female course attendees between the years of 2012-2021. The study group consists of 46 adult female participants aged between 22-68, selected by snowball sampling model. The study follows the phenomenology patterns of qualitative research and uses semi-structured interviews. The data obtained from the participants were analyzed by content analysis. The Woman Culture and Art Centers are among the social municipality services that have become more popular in the recent years. Education of women is an imperial factor for the development of societies, and it is a matter of importance on which not only the central government, but also local governments focus. Municipalities, according to Article 14 of Law No. 5393; meet the demands and expectations of people on issues such as teaching profession and skills, cultural and artistic activities. Çorum Municipality Woman Culture and Art Centers, which started for these purposes, serve women in 8 different regions of Çorum, the first of which opened in Veli Paşa Mansion on 17 March 2011. In addition to vocational courses, these multi-faceted the Woman's Culture and Art centers serve as environment for adult women for socialization, sociocultural improvement and providing psychological support. As a result of our research, it has been determined that the participants displayed predicted behaviors. After participating in the courses of the Woman Culture and Art Centers, the participants learned to live together with people from different cultures, ethnic groups, ages and socio-economic status, and to respect their differences and they gained sense of unity by collectively working and producing, as partners. In this respect, it is seen that the contribution of the Woman Culture and Art Centers to adult education and socialization of women is undeniable.
