A study on Kadro magazine

One of the single most important stages that had taken place during the modernization of Turkey as part of Tanzimat Reform Era was the declaration of the Turkish Republic. This new country, which had emerged out of the ashes from the now fallen Ottoman Empire, now had to deal with a national identity crises in the wake of defeating imperialism. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his contemporaries had wanted to establish the new Turkey within a Western framework. The country itself had found itself stewing in heated debate at as its founders attempted to resolve its many challenges though democracy—that is, while the state was working furiously to bring itself up to modern standards, many nevertheless quarrelled over the direction of its future. Among the latter had included the Kradoists [Kadrocular], a small circle of intellectuals who had printed a magazine of the same name [Kadro], which had served as a platform to debate, and ultimately shape Turkey's economic policies. The introduction section of this study will briefly discuss the economic policy that had existed in Turkey prior to the Kadroists, as well as will look the establishment, the ideas, and the ultimate disbandment of the Kadroists. The first section will evaluate the Kadro magazine within a certain disciplinary framework, examining it under the following subsections: Format Properties, Credentials, Editorial Policy, Writing/Editorial Staff, and Literary Activities. The second, or Annotated Index section of this study further categorizes magazine content according to Issue, Author, Subject, and Genre without focusing on any one particular article. Each article and graphic, moreover, has been presented in an index table.
