Evaluation of coffee drum as an alternative green roof growing environment material

Abstract (EN)

In this research, the growing environments created by mixing coffee and soil in different proportions and the development parameters determined during the vegetation period of Sedum spurium and Fragaria ananassa plants planted in these environments were evaluated. The research was conducted between August 2021 and January 2024. In the control group of the experimental study, 0% coffee-100% soil was used. In the experimental group, two groups were created: 20% coffee-80% soil, 50% coffee-50% soil. The research started with 33 pots in each group, and when the dried plants were removed from the research, each group of the research was completed with 22 pots. During the six-month follow-up period of the research, the height, diameter, root collar diameter, number of fruit buds, chlorophyll values, soil temperature, soil electrical conductivity (EC) of these plants; frequency was evaluated by One-way ANOVA, correlation, regression and Bivariate analysis. In the study, a negative significant relationship was found between the coffee content of the Sedum spurium plant and the plant's diameter, height, and root collar diameter, and a positive significant relationship was found between the EC value (p<0.05, p<0.01). In Fragaria ananassa plant, a negative significant relationship was found between coffee content and plant height, chlorophyll, and a positive relationship was found between the number of fruits and EC value (p<0.05, p<0.01). As a result, it was seen that coffee was not more effective than soil in terms of plant growth. However, among the plant development parameters of coffee; It made a positive contribution to the EC value in Sedum spurium and to the EC and fruit number in Fragaria ananassa.
