Abstract (EN)

In recent years, the search for new treatments and preventive methods continues for many diseases whose prevalence is increasing all over the world. Since the use of chemical drugs in the treatment of these diseases includes some side effects, studies on the biological activities of components that can be an alternative to chemical drugs have gained importance. Herbal bioactive chemicals are an important alternative to synthetic drugs. Especially plants grown in extreme environmental conditions can stand out more than many herbal products thanks to their different phytochemical profiles. In the present study, it was aimed to investigate the biological activities of different extracts (ethylacetate, methanol and water) of the plant, considering that Kalidium wagenitzii plant may have a unique phytochemical profile as one of the rare plants distributed around Salt Lake. For this purpose, the total phenolic and flavonoid contents of the plant and antioxidant activities were determined using some common methods (DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP, PBD and MCA). Inhibition activities for acetylcholine esterase (AChE), butyrylcholine esterase (BChE), tyrosinase, α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes were also investigated. Ethyl acetate extract showed high activity in all antioxidant analyzes except metal chelating activity. In enzyme inhibition activities, different extracts were found to be more active for each enzyme. Consequently, it is thought that the plant Kalidium wagenitzii is an important source of bioactivity and has an important potential in the prevention and treatment of many diseases such as cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's and skin diseases with its antioxidant activity and enzyme inhibition activities.
