Abstract (EN)

Today with the development in technology and medicine, treatment time of patients with heart failure is getting shorter, the nurses give high priority to tecnical care, the patients are not educated or it proves to be insufficient. Under these circumstances, efficient using of the time spent by the patient in hospital gets impotance. One of the reasons of the time not being spent efficiently is the difference, between the subjects that the nurses think they are important for the patients and the subjects the patients need to learn.The objective of this survey is to determine the underlying learning needs of the patients with heart failure and education subjects that the nurses think they are important to learn..the survey included 36 nurses (working in cardiology or coranary intensive care clinics of Adana Numune Fatma Kemal Timuçin Cardiac Center, Çukurova Universty Medical Faculty Balcalı Hospital and Adana Başkent Hospital in Adana for at least 3 months) and 129 patients (staying in the same hospital, 18 years- old or more, New York Heart Assosiciation class II-III acquainted with the diagnonosis). As data collecting tools, introductory features survey from and question cards that include education subjects abour heart failure are wed patients and nurses were given 13 cards which included education subjects. Both groups were wanted to rank the educations sujects according to priority by putting the most important one on the top which they think it is important to be learnt. İn the survey, frequency and percentage defination statistic methods were used for the analysis of the data.At the end of research, the education requirement of the patients with heart failure and the nurses' throughts about this have proved to be different. İt has been established that the subjects most of the patients find very important are considered to be unimportant by the nurses or a susubject considered to be unimportant by the patient is found very important by the nurses.According to these results, the patients who have heart failure are to be in the education plan and before being educated, it is important to determine the underlying learning needs.Key Words: heart failure, education needs, nurses' thoughts
