Cyberloafing activities of administrative personnel: The case of Yalova University

Use of information technologies in organizations made social relations among employees sampler, reduced workload and raised productivity consequently. Besides, use of provided internet opportunities within work hours brings up the term of cyberloafing. The purpose of this study is to reveal cyberloafing levels of employees and factors affecting these individual attitudes. General information on virtual life and cyberloafing attitudes will be given in the literature. This study involves 311 civil servants of Yalova University as a sample. Since, security and cleaning services will not be included in the analysis, 211 surveys are taken into consideration. Literature on the subject is analyzed firstly Scale is determined in line with the literature. Chosen scale has been used in two different studies. Survey is consisted of 2 sections and total of 28 questions. Data gathered by surveys are analyzed using SPSS 20 statistical program. According to results of the analysis, no statistical difference is present in terms of demographic variables about cyberloafing attitudes of the attendees in Yalova University. Education, age, gender, seniority, marital status, and position are also show no statistical significance on cyberloafing attitudes. Employees show cyberloafing activities by their area of interests, ideologies, and professional specialty.
