Development of hospital garden design proposal for cancer patients,İnonu university Turgut Özal medical center oncology hospitalexample

Some clinical findings have been obtained regarding the effect of natural areas, which appear as hospital gardens, on the psychological well-being of patients. In the literature, the reasons for the positive contributions of being with nature to the daily lives of patients have been investigated and patients have been shown to benefit from nature internally, mentally and physically. In Turkey, there are very limited institutions that individuals, especially those with cancer, who need hospital gardens can go to. For this reason, families and patients with cancer are helpless, hopeless, unhappy and in a difficult situation. The aim of this study is to plan the hospital interior garden for cancer patients within İnönü University Oncology Hospital and the design proposal was developed accordingly. In the design of this hospital garden for cancer patients, some issues were taken into account in order to reduce stress in users, create a balanced sensory environment, increase motivation and provide a calmer and more spacious area different from the hospital environment. The thesis study consists of 4 consecutive analytical stages. These consisted of the stages of (1) literature research, (2) survey and analysis of research areas, (3) determination of user requests and needs, and (4) development of a hospital garden design proposal. In order to determine user requests and needs, a survey was conducted for patients and their relatives who came to the hospital, and face-to-face interviews were conducted with doctors in the study area. In addition, through interviews with hospital officials, the design features of the study area were evaluated in terms of landscape design. In the last stage of the method; With the findings obtained from the literature study, field survey and analysis, and determination of the wishes and needs of the users, a hospital interior garden design proposal for individuals with cancer was made. At this stage, computer programs such as Autocad 2021, Sketchup 2021 and Lumion were used to create the project and transfer it to the digital environment. As a result, in this study, the landscaping elements that should be included in the design of oncology hospital gardens were identified and some suggestions were developed for the design of these gardens.
