Abstract (EN)

The aim of study was to examine the relationship between attitudes towards cancer and intolerance of uncertainty with spiritual well-being in cancer patients. The population of the study consisted of all patients diagnosed with cancer admitted to the oncology outpatient clinics of two different public hospitals or receiving inpatient treatment between March 1, 2024 and January 30, 2025. Sample consisted of 400 patients who met the inclusion criteria. The data were collected using the Information Form, Three-Factor Spiritual Well-Being Scale, Questionnaire for Measuring Attitudes Toward Cancer - Patient Version and Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The mean scores of spiritual well-being, attitudes towards cancer and intolerance of uncertainty were 118.63±16.49, 2.06±0.50 and 36.45±9.80, respectively. There was a significant negative relationship between the impossibility of recovery and discrimination with spiritual well-being. There was a significant negative relationship between inhibitory anxiety and spiritual well-being. Furthermore, alcohol use and hormone therapy were significant variables predicting spiritual well-being. The results of the study reveal that in addition to alcohol use and hormone therapy, the impossibility of recovery, discrimination and inhibitory anxiety have a significant impact on spiritual well-being in cancer patients.
