Penal politics as one of the concretenesses of non-economic coercion in capitalism

In capitalism, unlike the previous social formations, the economic sphere and the political sphere are separated from each other formally. The political one is redefined within the political sphere. The effort to explain reality within the boundaries of the political sphere has had two consequences. First consequence is that the economic sphere is positioned outside politicization. Second one is that production relations operate within the economic sphere and on the basis of economic coercion. The continuation of this function is provided by non-economic coercion. However, criticized approach is that non-economic coercion has led to the inability to explain the social contents. Moreover this approach leads to claims that non-economic coercion exists for the interest of the whole society. In addition this, as one of the concretenesses of non-economic coercion, penal politics has been taken apart from the sociality within the boundaries of the political sphere and has been mystified by tautological explanation. That form of explanation does not have any social context on both capitalism and penal politics in the capitalist social formation. Besides, it naturalizes the mode of production and the penal politics; positioning the mode of production and the penal politics as over the history or the end of the line that history requires to follow. In this study, both capitalism and penal politics as one of the concretenesses of non-economic coercion will be discussed with a holistic aproach over material, historical and social foundations. The discussion was proceeded in the context of a social antagonism on the axis of two classes, which keeps the means of production in the capitalist social formation and which has nothing other than labor force. Furthermore, in the discussion, it was tried to reveal function of the mode of production on the political one and the economic one coexistence.
