The effect of music to sleep quality on liver transplanted patients

The Effect Of Music To Sleep Quality On Liver Transplanted Patients Objectıve: Study was conducted to investigate effect of music to sleep quality on liver transplanted patients Materıals-Methods: The study was conducted at Inonu University Liver Transplant Institute between May 2017 and January 2018 using semi-trial model with pre-test and post-test control groups. The universe contains adult patients with liver transplants. Research sample is; 88 patients (44 trials, 44 controls) selected by haphazard sampling method. Patient Presentation Form (HTF) and Richard Campbell Sleep Quality Scale (RCUÖ) were used for collecting tools. During collecting experiment group data, HTF and RCUÖ were applied; then researcher played music for 4 days before patients slept. One day after last musical practice, sleep quality was assessed by applying RCUÖ again. For control group, HTF and RCUÖ were applied first. RCUÖ was reapplied after 5 days without any application. Number, percentage, average, standard deviation, chi-square and t-test were used for analyzing data. Results: It was determined that average sleep quality pre-test score of patients in experimental group was 32.3 ± 18.7 and that increased to 52.1 ± 19.4 after music listening. In control group, while average sleep quality pre-test score was 41.9 ± 20.4, final test score average was determined as 41.4 ± 19.9. It was noted that difference between pre-test and post-test scores of experimental group was statistically significant (p = 0.000) and difference in control group wasn't significant (p = 0.420). Conclusions: Findings of study indicate that music enhances sleep quality after liver transplantation. Key words: Music, liver transplantation, nursing, sleep
