Effect of using canola and safflower oils in black sea trout (Salmo trutta labrax) diets on growth performance and fatty acid composition

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effects of safflower and canola oils which were used instead of fish oil in Black Sea trout (Salmo trutta labrax) diets on growth performance and fatty acid composition were investigated. 525 Black Sea trouts were used with an average weight of 30.22 ± 0.19 g in this study which lasted 90 days. In this research, seven different diets containing 100% fish oil (BY), 100% safflower oil (AY), 100% canola oil (KY), 50-50% fish oil-safflower oil (BY-AY), 50-50% fish oil-canola oil (BY-KY), 50-50% safflower oil-canola oil (AY-KY) and fish oil-safflower oil- canola oil (BY-AY-KY) were used. According to the statistical results in the end of the experiment, there is no significant difference between groups in terms of specific growth rate, relative growth rate, feed conversion ratio, thermal growth coefficient and crude protein in fish meat (p˃0.05) but there is significant difference between groups in terms of net protein utilization, hepatosomatic index, viscerosomatic index and crude lipid in fish flesh (p˂0.05). In the fish flesh, the highest amount of linoleic acid was determined in group AY, the highest amounts of linolenic and oleic acids were found in group KY and the highest values of DHA and EPA acids were obtained in group BY. In addition, the highest amount of ƩSFA in group BY-AY, the highest amount of ƩMUFA in group KY, the highest amount of ƩPUFA in group AY, the highest amount of Ʃomega-3 in group BY and the highest amount of Ʃomega-6 in group AY were determined. As a result, it was determined that the use of safflower and canola oils instead of whole or part of fish oil in Blacksea trout feed had no significant effect on growth performance and feed evaluation but fatty acid composition in feeds caused significant changes in fish meat.
