Abstract (EN)

In this study, the composition and monthly distribution of Emiliania huxleyi (Lohmann) W.W.Hay & H.P.Mohler were investigated from January 2008 to December 2009 in Sinop Cape region. Samplings were done with Niskin type (Hydro-Bios Kiel) water sampler at 0.5 m and 10 m that had maximum density of cells. According to findings, in 2008 sampling, Emiliania huxleyi cell concentration was found minimum in August with 0,009x106 cell/l and maximum in December with 4x106 cell/l. According to findings, in 2009 sampling, Emiliania huxleyi cell concentration was found minimum in August (10m) with 0,0009x106 cell/l, and maximum in April (0m) with 2x106 cell/l. In the Black Sea ecosystem that changes with eutrophication, it is necessary to monitoring the phytoplankton species, to examine the changes of dominant species, and revealing the differences. Within this context, European Union- Marine Strategy Framework Directive is desired biodiversity and food web studies of plankton communities. For this reason, to follow abundance of the Emiliania huxleyi species in the Black Sea regularly is considerably important for providing Good Environmental Status.
