Demographic characteristics and symptom distribution of child and adolescents attending to Karadeniz Tecnical Universty Medical Faculty Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic

The aim of this study is to determine the demographic features, symptom distrubution of child and adolescents in this region. In east blacksea region only serving Child and Adolescent Clinic is in Karadeniz Tecnical University Medical Faculty and compare all these regional findings with studies which was done in other Child and Adolescent Clinics in order to determine differences between the regions. 632 child and adolescents who applied first time by their families with different symptoms between 1 January 2003 and 30 June 2003 to Karadeniz Technical University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic were included the study. The data was obtained by using semi- structured interview forms to each child and adolescent. Demographic features and first application symptoms of these child and adolescent were obtained. Relation between the demographic features and the first aplication symptoms were investigated. In this study , demographic features and symptom distrubution between patients who were applied to KTU Faculty of Medicine Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic and other Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinics were found similar. The positive and negative factors which affect the spirit health by detecting risk factors that result the psychopathology in the child can be defined with epidemiologic studies, and the protective, new and effective programs can be formed for preventing disorders.
