Determining the burnout levels of the residents of Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine after the pandemic process and comparing the burnout level rates between departments

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic has put tremendous pressure on the entire healthcare system. Physicians, who naturally fight the epidemic on the front lines, are more risky in terms of burnout syndrome. In this study, it was aimed to determine the factors affecting the burnout syndrome suffered by physicians after the COVID-19 pandemic and which branch physicians experienced burnout after this process. Method: This descriptive study was conducted at Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine Farabi Hospital. After obtaining the approval of the ethics committee, the questionnaire forms were collected with those who agreed to participate in the study by sending the link in the online questionnaire form to the research assistants who have been working at KTU Farabi Hospital for more than 1 year. Researchers took part in data collection. Results: In our study, DT level was found to be statistically significantly higher in frontline workers compared to other branches. The DYS level of the physicians involved in the management of the pandemic is higher than those who do not. DT and DYS levels of physicians working in the field of COVID-19 isolation were found to be higher than those not working. A positive and significant relationship was found between the duration of the assignment and DT and DYS. A positive and significant relationship was found between the number of units assigned during the pandemic and DT and DYS. Conclusion: Physician burnout after the pandemic process is a problem that should be emphasized. Physicians working on the front lines face an increased risk of burnout after this process. Taking measures to prevent physician burnout and additional measures for physicians working in risky units in terms of burnout should be considered.
