Karaferye Court Records Numbered 94 (552) and dated 1924 (Transcription and evaluation)

Kadi registers were the books that were written by Kadi, which includes verdicts on the Islamic court, correspondences with the government and the important documents. Kadi registers, as well as contains documents like Hüccet, mürasele, ilam, maruz which were written by Kadi, also includes documents that were sent by the government such as tezkere, temessük, ferman, buyruldu. These variety of documents make court records the most important archive documents to get information about Ottoman's social, political, economical, judicial, administrative and military history as well as its province's history. Therefore, kadi registers -especially on urban history- is a must known source for those historians who wants to research Ottoman History from different perspectives. Throughout the history, Karaferye were controlled by different empires. During the Ottoman Empire era Karaferye, which was a province of Selanik, due to its geographical location, fruitful lands and small-scale industry, was an important center in the Balkans. Later, Karaferye was given to Greece with the Treaty of Athens right after Ottoman Empire's defeat in the Balkan Wars. In this thesis, numbered 94 (552) and dated 1924 Karaferye court record were completely translated and evaluated. This court record, by the time it was written, takes account of the period after the Treaty of Athens and gives informatin about muslims who lived in Karaferye. In this court record, there are 228 verdicts that were recorded between 1915-1924 related to appointment a guardian, issues about foundations, heritage distribution, alimony, divorce. Most of them are the verdicts about appointment a guardian and issues about foundations. All verdicts in this court record were classified according to their subject and they were shown in a table. Also all architectural structures, names of neighborhoods, province and village names were indicated.
