Abstract (EN)
In this study, the texts of Karagöz shadow plays in Cevdet Kudret's three-volume work examined from the viewpoint of folklore. The history of shadow plays are investigated with the main lines. The structural features of Karagöz shadow plays are scrutinized and the folkloric elements in them are evaluated and categorized with regards to Sedat Veyis Örnek's body of literature in the field of folklore. As a result of this study, it is concluded that Karagöz shadow plays include a wide array of folkloric features; and thus the performance shadow players on a white curtain with a backlight reflecting figures indicate a fine mastery due to players' perfect observation of folkloric culture around them.
