Abstract (EN)
968 numbered saltpeter registration notebook, constituting the main source of this study, has provided information about of the Ottoman Empire social, economic, in a humanistic manner and the military situation. In our study, have been identified based upon 968 numbered saltpeter registration notebook, concerning to mines located in Karaman shire. There are copious amounts of saltpeter soil covering the areas of Konya, Larende, Niğde, Beyşehri, Seydişehri, Akşehir, Aksaray, Kayseri İç-İl shire. After the Ottoman domination, saltpeter mines located in the area was governed by the state. Saltpeter is a raw material used in making gunpowder. Construction and use of gunpowder as a military state in the Ottoman prominent was extremely common. Gunpowder and saltpeter business was established in many parts of empire. These enterprises has deeply affected military, social and economic life in the region. In the locations operated saltpeter, employees belonging to the military class makes the task by turns. They have gained certain privileges in exchange for the task given to them by the Ottoman Empire. Key Words: Saltpeter, Karaman, Konya, Eşkünci, Gunpowder,
