A study to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on dark triad personality traits

This study aims to examine the interaction between the Dark Triad personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy), which have gained increasing importance in organizational behavior literature in recent years, and emotional intelligence. A review of the literature reveals that there have been various studies examining the relationships between the research variables. However, these studies have been insufficient in revealing how the Dark Triad personality traits and emotional intelligence influence each other. This study aims to fill an important gap in organizational management by analyzing how the research variables, whose relationship has been proven in the literature, interact with each other. Bringing together two important topics that are usually examined separately, such as the Dark Triad and emotional intelligence, allows for an evaluation of the fundamental causes of organizational behavior. Within the scope of the research, data obtained from 222 public employees using scales with proven reliability were tested using the SPSS program. The findings obtained from the analyses revealed that Machiavellian and narcissistic personality traits have a positive effect on emotional intelligence levels, while psychopathic personality traits have a negative effect on emotional intelligence.
