Abstract (EN)

ü ABSTRACT Master of Science Thesis ADSORPTION OF CARBONMONOXIDE ON NATURAL ZEOLITES ZAFER DİKMEN Anadolu University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science Physics Program Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Önder Orhun 1998, Page 63 The main pollutants created by transportation, heating and industry are sulphur dioxide, nitrogenoxides, carbonmonoxide,...etc. These pollutants emitted, in general, through funnel and exhaust system to the environment have a damaging effect on human health, farm production, forest and the buildings. It is estimated that a two fold increase in the effective concentration of green house-gases would cause a 1,5 to 4,5 °C temperature increasement of global warming. This, in turn, would result in natural disasters and many other negative developments. One of the most dominant gas in green house-gas İs CO. That is why we studied the adsorption of CO in clinoptilolite, which is a natural zeolite. In our study, we prepared 0,1N;0,5N and IN ionic forms of natural zeolite obtained from Gördes-Manisa by the column process. We found their density, specific surface area and pore diameter by using N2 adsorption methods. We also got the X-Ray diffraction on DTA's of the samples. We then did experiments of carbonmonoxide adsorption and desorption on them. As a result, we found out that Na+ forms of clinoptilolite obtained from Gördes-Manisa exhibit best result in adsorption of CO.
