The relationship between the ability to withstand the discomfort and discomfort experienced due to sandbag placement by patients after femoral catheter removal post cardiac surgery This study is conducted as a descriptive and cross-sectional study, to examine the relationship between the discomfort experienced by the patients due to sandbag placment to control the bleeding and their ability to withstand the discomfort after femoral catheter removal post cardiac surgery. This study was conducted in one Training and Research Hospital Surgical Intensive Care Unit in city of Bursa. The universe of the study consisted of post cardiac surgery patients who had sandbag placed on femoral area after removal of a femoral catheter. Data were collected between December 2018 and February 2019.Sample of the study consisted of 200 patients who met the inclusion criteria with the confidention level at 90% and with 5% margin of error. Data were collected using face-to-face interviews with the patients, using the patient identification form and the Resilience Scale (RBS). SPSS 22.0 software package program was used to analyze the data. The results were given by numbers, percentages and means. Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U tests and Cronbach alpha coefficient was used for statistical analysis. There was a positive, significant, and strong relationship between "Total Discomfort Scale" scores and its' subdimensions with pain on femoral area, numbness in the legs, shoulder pain, back pain, difficulty urinating, difficulty in breathing, difficulty in eating and drinking, weakness, helplessness, anxiety (p<0.001). It is recommended to share the results of the study with the clinical staff where the study was conducted, to conduct observational and descriptive studies that examine the relationship between the discomfort and the endurance of patients who underwent cardiac surgery due to the removal of the femoral catheter, and the patient's ability to withstand the discomfort. It is recommended that to develop a written material to quide patients in the postoperative period and nurses should plan effective interventions to reduce patients' discomfort due to sandbag applications.
