Caria geometric period ceramics and a proposal for a tableware design

In the Master of arts thesis work which is named as "Caria Geometric Period Ceramics and a Proposal For a Tableware Design", Caria Geometric Period Ceramics are examined by various subtitles such as Caria civilisation, Caria Geometric Period Ceramics, culture, geographical position, religion, language, industrial sources and within the scope of this research, new tableware design proposals are included which were inspired by Caria Geometric Period Ceramics. Ceramic products that started to be produduced afterwards the discovery of fire by humanity, has carried the traces of many civilazations until today and showed typological differencies according to the usages. Geometric Period Ceramics which were produced in Caria Region are examined and given in this thesis report, by literature review and museum visits. Besides the factors affecting design approaches in today's ceramic tableware are examined through current examples and as a result new and original tableware design proposals are developed from Caria Geometric Period Ceramics. This thesis consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the history, language, religion and geographical features of the Carians who lived in Caria Region were included through the citations from the ancient writers and current data. In the second chapter, general properties and forms and decor examples of Caria Geometric Period Ceramics are researched through ceramics that were produced from proto- geometric phase to late geometric phase. In the third chapter, today's design and design approaches through examples are examined by researching design concept and also by researching history of porcelain material that is used in tableware production. In the fourth chapter, original tableware design applications, which is based on the Caria Geometric Period Ceramics, are concluded by a new point of view.
