The effect of cartoon supported teaching on primary school Turkish lesson

This study aims to determine the effects of cartoons as a teaching tool on primary school 4th-grade students' achievements and attitudes in Turkish lesson. The research was conducted with 62 students studying in two fourth grade classes of a primary school in the central district of Kırşehir. Pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design was applied. The experimental group was lectured with cartoon supported method. On the other hand, the control group continued their Turkish lessons with the current curriculum-based teaching method. The data of the study was obtained from the "Turkish Achievement Test" and "Attitudes Towards Turkish Scale" in both experimental and control groups as pre-test and post-test. A statistical program was used to analyze the data. The mean scores of the groups and the standard deviations were calculated and tables were created by looking at whether the data showed a normal distribution. Data was analyzed in detail in terms of gender and education status of parents. The findings have indicated that there is no statically significant difference between the two groups in terms of attitude levels and academic achievements although there is a difference in favor of the experimental group. Furthermore, it was found that there is no significant difference in terms of attitude levels of the experimental group while there is a significant difference when the pre-test and post-test academic achievement scores are compared.
