Bibliometric analysis of international academic journals in the career field

Having a career means following a chosen career path to earn more, take on responsibilities, and gain respect. The first studies on the concept of career have an objective perspective that includes hierarchical advancement within an organization or profession, as well as income and status. For employees, choosing a career is an important decision that can significantly impact their lives and futures. Career planning is essential to understand how individual cultural contexts influence worldviews. Each individual has a personal worldview that shapes their attitudes, values, opinions, and beliefs about how things operate in the world. Career planning is a concept that has gained importance within human resource management and modern management approaches today. Career development is a process that enables individuals to achieve their career goals by increasing their knowledge, skills, and experiences throughout their professional lives. Additionally, it can be stated that career planning is important for human resources. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of research in the field of career published in journals between 2013 and 2023. For this purpose, journal names and articles were scanned from the Web of Science Core Collection database. In the study area from 2013 to 2023, a total of 1210 documents were identified across 7 sources (journals). Among these documents, 1174 are articles, 4 are early access articles, and 32 are critique-type publications. The annual growth rate was determined to be 4.67%. A total of 255 authors contributed to these works, with 123 being single-author publications. The international co-author collaboration rate is 24.63%. The average number of co-authors per publication is 3.1. The studies included the use of 2815 author keywords and referenced a total of 36,750 references. The average citation rate per publication is 14.85. The highest number of articles is indexed in the "Applied Psychology" category (n=1119). The "Management" category ranks second with 174 articles. It has been concluded that in recent years, studies related to career, such as Career Development, Career Fit, and Bibliometric Analysis, are leading research areas in career studies.
