Career development and an application in 1st Air Supply and Maintenance Center Command

VI ABSTRACT Career, one of the words used frequently in working life nowadays, is a process consisting individual's occupational progress and works, behaviors and attitudes related with his/ her position. Career is a concept developing in the mutual responsibility of individual and organization. Career management, which is related with the organizational dimension of career, is a basic tool for investing on employee's knowledge and establishing an intellectual creative capacity which is necessary for organizational work continuity. For employee's healthy progress, career management is essential. Career management provides mobility of workforce in organization, thus employees can be motivated. Employees may know and predict which status they may get after sometime in the organizations in which management is good. Employees' knowing this raise the motivation level among employees and their loyalty to organization and work is strengthened. Career planning, which is one of the function career management and which shows the road map from the very beginning, is very important both for organizational reasons such as raising the service quality, workforce profitability, customer satisfaction, and providing workforce planning, cutting down workforce rotation speed, and for individual reasons such as evaluating employees according to their capabilities, and raising job satisfaction, self -recognition of employees. Career development, which is function of human source management and which coordinates the career planning and career management according to individual wish and objective, is programs, actions and activities applied for an individual reach his/her career objectives during the work life. Basic objective of career development is to support management in encouraging employee's career development. While physical capacity was vital in workforce in Industrial society, knowledge and capability of workforce has gained an importance in information society, thus career development activities has gained a lot importance for both individuals and organizations.
