Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the career management systems of different countries and teachers' views on the career management system in Turkey. The study was designed as a case study from qualitative research models. Accordingly, career management systems of different countries were investigated. These countries are Finland, USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, Japan, Singapore, Singapore, England and Australia, which are successful in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The systems of these countries were analyzed through document analysis method. Teachers' views on the career management system in Turkey were obtained from face-to-face interviews with teachers. The study group of the research consists of 6 school administrators and 12 teachers working at different levels in Merkezefendi, Pamukkale and Honaz districts of Denizli in the 2023-2024 academic year and determined by maximum variation sampling. A semi-structured interview form consisting of 3 questions was used as a data collection tool. The data obtained from the interviews were processed using descriptive analysis method. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that almost all of the countries included in the study have similar criteria in the implementation of teaching career steps; teachers enter a candidacy process after graduating from undergraduate programs and have professional qualification certificates that they are required to obtain in this process; seniority is the most important factor shaping the career structure; and although there are differences between states in some countries, a multi-structured career structure is preferred. In addition, it was revealed that teachers thought that the career ladder system in Turkey deviated from its original purpose, did not contribute to the professional development of teachers and that the titles given were ineffective. Based on these criticisms, it was concluded that teacher suggestions should be evaluated and improvements should be made. Keywords: Career, career management, teacher, manager
