Determination of phytoplankton species composition of Karkamis dam lake

This study was carried out five different stations in Karkamış Dam between January- December 2015. Phytoplankton distribution and some physico-chemical parameters of this dam were investigated. During the study, the mean values of parameters taken yearly in the surface waters of Karkamış Dam Lake were calculated for temparature 14,3 ºC, pH 8,41 dissolved oxygen amount 10 mg / l, nitrite nitrogen amount 0.019 mg NO2 - N / L, nitrate nitrogen amount 2,292 Mg NO3 - N / L dissolved reactive phosphorus content 0.034 mg o-PO4-3-P / L, the total phosphorus content 0.016 mg P / L as. During the study, a total of 85 taxa were recorded at the Karkamış Dam Lake. These taxa were algae belonging to 56 Bacillariophyta, 15 Chlorophyta, 1 Chrysophyta, 10 Cyanophyta, 2 Dinophyta and 1 Euglenophyta. 44 pieces of these taxa were important because of its presence in all stations. Phormidium (3 taxa) from Cyanophyta and Gomphonema (8 taxa), Epithemia, Fragilaria, Navicula and Ulnaria (4 taxa), Cymbella, Gyrosigma and Nitzschia (3 taxa) and Cyanophyta'd Phormidium (3 taxa) were the most represented species among the algae belonging to these groups. According to the data obtained at the end of the study, the number of the taxa were recorded that at least 50 taxa in the V. station and the highest 59 taxa in the II. station.
