Carpets in the Kars Etnographia Museum

Carpet weaving has been one of the most important occupations of Anatolian people. Although exactly when carpet weaving began is not known, it is estimated that it arose from the needs that nomadic cult revealed. As a result of being woven in different places carpets differ in pattern, colour, composition, raw material, and carpets are referred by the name of the places where they are woven with their remarkable features. Carpets in the Kars Ethnography Museum have been examined for the thesis study. The patterns on the carpets are usually geometric, and they have unique and locally distinctive patterns on them. Kars, gate for Caucasia Region to Anatolia, shows with its carpets that it is in interaction with the carpets of this region. At the same time, the carpets in Kars show similarities with the carpets in various regions of Anatolia in terms of pattern and composition.
