Vocabulary of Kars dialects

In this thesis, the aim is to present vocabulary of Kars dialects which are among Turkey Turkish dialects. The main focus of the study is to identify the vocabulary elements; words, proverbs, idioms, reduplications and expressions, belonging to the dialects of Turkic tribes living within the borders of Kars today. Accordingly, 179 source people identified who are Azeri, Local, Terekeme and Turkmen, living in the central district of Kars and 94 villages of Akyaka, Arpaçay, Digor, Kağızman, Sarıkamış, Selim and Susuz districts have been interviewed and data has been gathered together by us at different times in 2011 and 2014. Besides, Derleme Sözlüğü has been scanned and the data in the dictionary belonging to Kars dialects has been identified. Therefore, all the materials including the ones done in the field and the ones acquired from Derleme Sözlüğü have been discussed in the thesis and examined in three parts. In the introduction, the aim of the study, its method and the limits of the study have been indicated and basic information has been given about the ethnical structure of Kars. In the first part entitled "Proverbs, Idioms and Reduplications of Kars Dialects", the proverbs, idioms and reduplications identified have been examined in several ways in different titles. In the second part entitled "Expressions of Kars Dialects", benedictions, maledictions and oaths have been discussed; and have been presented by being classified according to their reasons of being produced and contexts of their emergence. In the third part entitled "Glossary", Dictionary and Indexes take place. At the Dictionary prepared, expressions belonging to Kars dialects which have been identified with the compilations done in the field and with Derleme Sözlüğü have been aligned in the alphabetical order, their meanings have been given, compilation places have been stated, and the titles and subtitles have been presented with examples. All the definitions and explanations made in this part remain faithful to the compilations done by us. The proverbs, idioms, reduplications, benedictions, maledictions and oaths observed in the region have been fully given under the title "Indexes". Conclusion has evaluation about the material analyzed in the study.
