A desing guide proposal for Kastamonu urban site street furnitures

Urban identity has been influenced by natural and human factors such as the historical and cultural development of all living and non-living elements, geographical location, and the character of the elements it hosts. Factors such as rapid urbanization as a result of mass migration and population growth from past to present, technological developments, changes in social structure, uniformity in architecture and street furniture have disrupted the structure of urban identity and threatened its continuity. Kastamonu has hosted many civilizations and historical events and currently has many historical commercial areas and traditional residences. Although the city has a historical identity with the values it harbors, it has been determined that Kastamonu urban texture cannot come to the forefront. It has been determined that this situation is caused by factors such as the lack of planning and design approaches suitable for the historical texture, deterioration due to the delay in making the necessary interventions, the unidirectionality of the sanitization works, and the lack of street furniture compatible with the urban identity. Therefore, there is a need for a design guide proposal for street furniture located in Kastamonu Urban Protected Area. The aim of the study is to protect Kastamonu urban identity by creating a design guide for street furniture, to increase spatial quality and quality of life while ensuring sustainability, and to ensure equality among users. Within the scope of the study, street furniture in cities that stand out with their historical identity were analyzed. Analyzes were made on the streets located in the urban protected area. Existing street furniture was analyzed and user opinions were taken into consideration. As a result of the studies, it was determined that the number of street furniture is insufficient in most of the streets examined. It has been observed that the existing street furniture is not compatible with the historical texture. It was determined that the users of the urban protected area were not satisfied with the street furniture. As a result of the study, a design guide for street furniture in Kastamonu Urban Conservation Area was created and some standards were determined. In line with the Design Guide proposal, examples of Belediye Street and Ibni Neccar Street were taken and visualized.
