Abstract (EN)
While concept cartoons can be used to identify and eliminate students' misconceptions, they can also be used as a teaching technique to concretize the subject and make it fun. In the TGA technique, the aim is for students to make predictions about the experiments, verify the predictions, compare their observations with their predictions, and discuss the subject as a whole by explaining it in their own words. This study specifically planned to create an instructional design that synthesizes concept cartoons and the TGA technique as a new instructional design. The aim of the research is to examine the effect of science teaching carried out with the concept cartoon-supported POE technique on the attitudes of 4th grade primary school students towards the science course, their academic success. For this purpose, the research was designed in a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test control group, which is one of the quantitative research methods. A total of 50 primary school 4th grade students, 25 in the experimental group and 25 in the control group, studying at a public primary school in Adana, formed the study group of the research. The research data was obtained by using the 18-item "Science Course Attitude Scale", which was developed to determine the students' attitude levels towards the science course, and the 20-item "Properties of Matter Knowledge Test", which was created to determine the students' academic achievement levels in science. Science teaching carried out with the concept cartoon supported POE technique used within the scope of the research constitutes the independent variable of the research. Before the analysis of data, normal distribution and variance homogeneity assumptions were checked. In this line, the independent groups t test was used to examine the difference between the score averages of independent groups, and the dependent groups t test was used to examine the difference between the score averages of paired groups. The results showed that science teaching carried out with the concept cartoon supported POE technique is effective in increasing the academic success of 4th grade primary school students in science course. Despite this, it was concluded that the technique did not have a significant effect on students' attitudes towards the science course. In line with the findings obtained as a result of the research, it is recommended that classroom teachers use concept cartoons in science teaching.
