Turkish literature and writers in the Cyprus Bozkurt newspaper (1951-1954)

Cyprus has attracted the attention of many people and states throughout history due to its geopolitical location. Cyprus was captured by the Ottoman Empire in 1571. The administration of Cyprus, which was ruled by the Ottoman Empire for 307 years, was given to England with a secret agreement made between the Ottoman Empire and England in 1878. Although the administration of Cyprus was given to England in 1878, Cyprus is legally considered Ottoman territory. Despite this, as the Greek population on the island increased, Turkish Cypriots remained a minority on the island. The Greeks started press work before the Turks, especially in order to accelerate the achievement of the goals of policies such as Hellenism, Megali Idea and Enosis. Turkish Cypriot intellectuals, who were aware of the efforts of Greek intellectuals to realize their goals, also attempted to publish a newspaper. To announce the existence and influence of the Turkish Cypriot community internationally, to defend their rights and interests, and to oppose the annexation of the island by Greece can be considered as the general objectives of the newspapers in the Turkish Cypriot press. While the newspapers were trying to achieve these goals, their relations with the Ottoman Government were bad from time to time, but their relations with the Republic of Turkey were good, the newspapers always felt a commitment to Turkey and followed Ataturk's principles and reforms. One of these newspapers is Bozkurt newspaper. Our study is limited to the issues of Bozkurt newspaper between 1951 and 1954, which was published between 1951 and 1988. In these issues, literary texts that can be evaluated within the Turkish literature identified in the newspaper and their writers and poets were determined. At this stage, Bozkurt newspaper's love for Atatürk and devotion to the Republic of Turkey and Turkish artists stood out. The reflections of the days and events that are important for the Turks of Turkey in the Bozkurt newspaper were also included in the study. Our scientific study consists of five basic sections. In the first part of the thesis, general information about "Bozkurt Newspaper" is given. In the second part of the thesis, "Literary Artists Who Stand Out with Their Articles in the Newspaper" are focused on. In the third chapter of the thesis, attention is drawn to "Turkish Cypriots' Love for Atatürk". In the fourth chapter of the thesis, "National and Special Days in Bozkurt Newspaper" is mentioned. In the fifth chapter of the thesis, "Books and Magazines Mentioned in Bozkurt" are discussed. Apart from the main sections, the index created by identifying literary texts as a result of examining the 1951-1954 issues of the newspaper has also been added to the thesis.
