Abstract (EN)

In this study, the use of bio-oil obtained as a result of rapid pyrolysis from carob pulp, an agricultural by-product, as a binder instead of phenolic resin in MgO-C refractory bricks was investigated. The effect of the temperature of carob meal under different pyrolysis conditions on bio-oil yield and chemical compound structure was investigated by rapid pyrolysis method. The chemical compound contents of the obtained bio-oils were determined by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometer (GC-MS) analysis. As a result of the GC-MS analyzes, it was determined that the majority of the chemical compounds in the structure of bio-oils consisted of phenol, ketone and acids. MgO-C was used as a binder instead of phenol-formaldehyde resin in the production of refractory bricks, where the best bio-oil yield was obtained and containing a high percentage of phenol in its structure (bio-oil obtained at 450°C pyrolysis temperature at 100°C/min heating rate). Physical and mechanical tests were applied to the refractory compositions prepared from bio-oily phenol hydroxymethyl furfural resin.
