Examination of Kelile and Dimne in terms of the values in the social studies curriculum

Kelile ve Dimne is an advice and story book that conveys the moral values of the period in which it was written, in an entertaining and catchy style, as well as being a policy book that sheds light on the rulers in their administration of the state. The work, which reached its current form with the additions of its translators, has been translated into many languages, inspired many works, and has become one of the most read books in the world. In this study, Kelile and Dimne, whose political and social aspects predominate, were examined in terms of eighteen values (justice, honesty, aesthetics…) included in the Social Studies Curriculum. The study group of the research consists of Kelile and Dimne and the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum. Document analysis method was used to collect research data. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the data obtained, and the summaries of the stories in the book and the values associated with the direct quotations from the texts in the book were presented. As a result of the research; Many of the stories in Kelile and Dimna were associated with all 18 values in the Social Studies Curriculum 137 times in different proportions. The story that was most valued was the story called Inspiration of the Bees. It has been associated with values 41 times together with the intermediate and inner stories in the story named Inspiration of the Bees. The frame stories with the least associations were the ones named Hasty Zahid and Heveskar Foreign, which were associated with 2 values. While the value of justice in the Social Studies Curriculum in the work was determined in 16 different stories, it was the most associated value, while the value of independence was determined in only 3 stories in the work and became the least associated value. It has been seen that Kelile and Dimne are an important work in terms of the values included in the Social Studies Curriculum, and it has been concluded that it would be beneficial to use the stories in Social Studies lessons by using a plain language.
