Abstract (EN)
Kemal Bekir (born in 1924) produced works across multiple literary genres. During the 1940s, he engaged in vibrant and diverse intellectual circles, which significantly shaped his artistic outlook. His stories were published in leading literary journals of the period—such as (Seçilmiş Hikâyeler, Yeditepe, Ufuklar, and Varlık)as well as in the arts sections of newspapers. Central to his artistic vision is socialist realism; however, unlike the rigid and ideological tendencies of traditional socialist realism, Bekir's perspective was framed by observation, humor, and irony. His novels and short stories emphasize everyday struggles, poverty, traditions, and the contradictions of modernization faced by Anatolian people Kemal Bekir's plays often highlight themes such as moral corruption, class inequality, individual weaknesses, and social injustice. His narrative style is characterized by a naturalness rooted in folk language and by his capacity to employ humor and tragedy simultaneously. These features distinguish him from contemporary socialist realist authors. By blending individual tragedies with broader social issues, Bekir's works not only preserve the collective memory of society but also reflect the psychological states of individuals.
