Examining according to gender quality of life at having chemoteraphy of cancer patients

Özet (EN)

The purpose of this descriptive study was to investigate whether quality of life of having chemoterapy patients who women with genital organ or breast cancer and men with genital organ cancer were difference. The study sample included 160 patients who having chemoterapy patients and suitable for sampling specifications at April- December 2006 at Dokuz Eylul University Hospital, İzmir, Turkey. The data of study has been collected with a form of socio- demographics and SF- 36 Quality of Life Scale. The Kruskall Wallis test, Mann Whitney U test, t test and correlation analysis have been used in evaluation of data. According to from the study acquired data mean of phsycial and mental health quality of life scores of women were high than men and the difference was statistically significant. However phsycial and mental health quality of life all subscale scores of women were high than men and the difference was statistically significant. It has been deduced that the quality of life women patients within the sample having chemoterapy better level than men is related to their perception of ?gender role?. A women accepting the role of womanhood imposed on her in Turkish society can be strong in a fatal and cronical disease as well such as cancer, and continues to carry out her all responsibilities in line with her facilities.
