City identity and city identitiy dimension of urban transformation: Example of Eskisehir

This thesis investigates the city identity of Eskisehir and the transformations of city elements that occur in the course of time from the prospect of architects and the students of architectures. The purpose of this is to look over the theoretical and experimental researches; to read the findings; to take and analyse the opinions of the designers; and thus to determine and discuss the identity structure of the city and the elements that affects this structure. The identifiers of the city identity are decided with the help of the survey that applied to the architectures working in Eskisehir (who are also the members of Architecture Chambers of Eskisehir) and the architecture students of Anadolu and Osmangazi Universities. With the surveys, thorough which elements the architectures and the students of architecture identify the city of Eskisehir; if the city leaves an effect of city image on the people living in Eskisehir; if the architectures and the students of architecture are aware of a certain city identity; the role of the architectures in the formation of the city identity and the elements that compose the city identity are determined. The survey data had assessed by SPSS program and the findings are criticized considering the process of urban transformation of the city.
