The social-economics structure of urban migrant: The case of Yalova

Urbanization as a process of transformation is one of the topics of social policy in materializing future-oriented goals of developing countries. Migration, as a result of urbanization, has a more comprehensive and rooted content rather than geographic relocation; and, with regard to its consequences, it consists of many social, economic, cultural, and psychological elements. In order to reduce problems which individuals migrating to the urban experience in their adaptation process, decision-makers try to take several steps.It is observed that urbanization which has influenced the West since the Industrial Revolution will also mark the 21st Century. Several social problems such as unemployment, housing, loneliness, and alienation have emerged as a result of migration which is a cause of rapid and unhealthy urbanization, and influences both individuals and society as a unity.This research has evolved out of the relationship between urbanization and migration, and explores the phases that individuals experience in the process of urbanization and that of becoming a city-dweller. In general, the aim of this thesis is to put forward the hypothesis that individuals face many problems in their adaptation processes to the urban. The city of Yalova was chosen as a source of data and statistics in the examination of the impact of migration on individuals in the process of urbanization, and, thus, a survey was conducted. In the light of the outcomes of the survey, the features of individuals who have migrated to the city and the phases that they have experienced in the urbanization process are examined.
