Abstract (EN)
The rise of information and communication technologies as well as the increase of urbanization are the two most important global movements of our age. Solutions created through new technologies are utilized to decrease the great pressure on the cities caused by the urbanization and population increase. In so-called "digital" or "smart" cities, where the infrastructure is increasingly digitalized, the main principle is to collect all urban services on a single platform or net by making all urban services interconnectable and improvable through digitalization. Cities have always been vital in understanding how the social change manifests itself. In its interaction with the city, cinema is able to put forth the physical, cultural, architectural, historical and social constructs of the cities with its various tools. Since Lumiere brothers' Paris of 1895, the cinema has been interested in representing the urban space and the way of life of urban people. The representation of the city and urban life as transformed by modernity and digitalization is gaining importance in cinema, which has been affiliated with modernity since its beginning. In this regard this study first explains the digitalization of cities, then examines the concepts of independent film and independent Turkish cinema while discussing the relationship between independent films and reality. The field study in the last chapter discusses the concept of representation, looks at the digitally transformed city through the lens of independent Turkish cinema with qualitative content analysis and explores the rate of representation of digitalization in independent works.
