Abstract (EN)

Alevism which has been a closed community in the countryside for centuries, has taken its present form as Modern Alevism by experiencing changes in the axis of rural-urban migration and modernization. This change has affected the structure of Alevism and also the lives of Alevis. The belief that women and men are equal in Alevi-Bektashi belief has been considered in many studies, has been analyzed with a critical approach by feminist researchers. As a result of this, it has been revealed that there is an inconsistency between theory and practice and although the belief includes equality in its essence, it internalizes gender-related norms in individuals' everyday lives. The research aims to measure the gender perception of urban Alevis, in line with this purpose it has aim to question whether there is a change in the gender perception of Alevis after migration to the city. Accordingly, the role of gender equality in Modern Alevism and how women and men experience equality were examined through in-depth interviews with women and men living in Kartal.
