Abstract (EN)

Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Technologies hold an important place in reaching recent and exact information in the process of monitoring, interpreting and planning of urban areas. Along with the increasing population, urban areas are in constant change. Universities are one of the factors which are effective in population growth and rapid urbanisation. Universities enable many social, economic and spatial development and changes in areas where established. When the problems, which may occur in the case that this rapid change is not planned and balanced, are considered, having access to rapid and exact information is becoming even more important. In this study, the change is land cover/use of the study area were observed and analysed making use of satellite imaging data and using Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Technologies. With the help of the change detection derived from NDVI maps, the impact of the establishment of the university on its surroundings was investigated comparing the live green vegetation percentages of the university area within a perimeter of 5 km and within a further perimeter of 5 km. Keywords: Geographic information system, Remote sensing, Change detection, Normalized difference vegetation index
