Abstract (EN)

of Keşfu'l-Ğumem fî Târihi'l-Ümem, a work written by the fifteenth-century historian Muhammed b. İbrahim b. Muhammed b. Zâhirü'l-Hanefî and regarded as one of the important works of Mamluk historiography. The examined section sheds light on a politically and socially turbulent period of the Mamluk State, namely the final years of Sultan al-Malik al-Muʾayyad Shaykh and the succession struggles among his heirs (AH 823–824 / AD 1420–1421). The study first discusses the author's life and the place of the work within Mamluk historiography. In the evaluation section, the work is analyzed in terms of how it addresses major political developments such as the death of Sultan al-Malik al-Muʾayyad Shaykh, Tatar's appointment as nāʾib al-salṭana / niẓām al-mulk, and the rise of al-Malik Barsbay. The author's approach, which rejects and refutes the criticisms directed at Sultan al-Muʾayyad by contemporary historians such as Makrīzī, demonstrates that the work offers an original perspective. In the transcription section, the text—characterized by features of Middle Arabic and blended with Turkish elements—has been rendered into the modern alphabet while remaining faithful to the original manuscript.
