Devised Theatre and a case study: "Mess"

Drama has been produced with various understandings and interpretations from past to present. Many different methods can be applied to its content and form. No matter how different the methods are, each artist actually strived to reach the ideal of theater production, as others did, and shared her/his views on content and form. Contemporary artists continue to exert this effort, and still searching for ways to produce a unique work. This creative journey is likely to persist as long as the fundamental definition of "art" remains constant. Within the scope of this study, an approach to theatrical production, namely Devised Theater has been examined beyond the content and form of theater. Devised Theater based on the fundamental requirements of theater (community and play), directs its attention not to how theater should be but to how it can be more/diverse. This approach may serve as a guide for those who wish to continue striving to create new paths and/or challenges in the field of theater regarding content and form. Within the scope of the thesis, after attempting to explain the meaning, content, and development of Devised Theater in a simple manner, a case study titled "Mess" has been examined in order to to gain insights into its practical application as well.
