Recommendation of A new labeling and marking system for chemical substances and mixtures

Abstract (EN)

Today, there are two accepted labeling systems for labeling and marking substances and mixtures in the field of occupational health and safety. One of the common features of these accepted labeling systems is that they are easy to understand and adapt because they use the same color codes. Another common feature of these labeling systems is the rating of the harm or hazards that may be caused by the substance or mixture in the labels with a system that progresses increasingly from zero to four. The first of these labeling systems is the NFPA 704 labeling system developed by the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Another labeling system is the Hazardous Substances Identification System (HMIS) developed by the US National Paint and Coating Manufacturers Association. Based on this information, the current research has proposed simple and understandable labeling and marking system that addresses the shortcomings of NFPA 704 and HMIS labeling systems. It is easy to adapt to labeling and marking, eliminates the disadvantaged features of other labeling systems. In addition, in-depth interviews were made with the participation of ten participants who were employed in Kırklareli/Lüleburgaz and Tekirdağ/Çorlu by the snowball sampling method. According to the results; It has been seen that the proposed new labeling and marking system is understandable, useful, practical and appropriate.
