Abstract (EN)

This research explores the insecticidal effects of bacterial isolates obtained from the gut of Rhagoletis cerasi (cherry fruit fly) as potential biocontrol agents. Ten bacterial isolates were identified and tested for their insecticidal properties against R. cerasi larvae, Tenebrio molitor (mealworm) larvae and Galeria mellonella (wax moth) larvae. The isolates were characterized using biochemical, molecular, and insecticidal assays. Among them, Serratia marcescens (Rc1) and Raoultella ornithinolytica (Rc9) exhibited the highest insecticidal activity, with mortality rates of 46% and 43% on T. molitor, 40% and 37% on R. cerasi, and %73 and %57 on G. mellonella, respectively. Moderate insecticidal effects were observed for isolates such as Lelliottia steviae (Rc2), Enterobacter ludwigii (Rc10) and Rahnella aceris (Rc10), while Pantoea agglomerans isolates (Rc3, Rc4, Rc7) displayed lower effectiveness. The study suggests that the production of toxins, enzymatic degradation of insect cuticles, and disruption of gut microbiota may contribute to the insecticidal activity of these bacteria. The findings highlight the potential of these bacterial isolates, particularly S. marcescens and R. ornithinolytica, as promising candidates for the development of biological control strategies against R. cerasi. Future work should focus on detailed mechanistic studies, field trials, and the development of synergistic combinations to enhance the efficacy of these isolates in integrated pest management programs.
