The role of new communication technologies in the context of interpersonal communication: An execution on instant messaging applications in the example of high school students

The influence of contemporary technology in all areas of life has also influenced and changed the forms of interpersonal communication. Along with these improvements, new communication environments have emerged and become indispensable tools of everyday life. The societies and lifestyles that technology has changed have differentiated them by re-updating the forms of communication and changing the socio-cultural relations between people. It is undeniable that instant messaging services, which are among the most important indicators of this change and change, take the foremost place among interpersonal communication tools. Conventional tools used in inter-personal communication with technology have changed communication processes between individuals or groups. Instead, he started to give away instant communication tools that do not require time and space. The fact that mobile phones are always online and the form of communication brought to the party without the difficulties of face-to-face communication has been seen to allow people to choose and frequently use very easy and urgent communication. Along with the use of these technological tools, it has become clear that the way in which people experience culture, socialization and sociability has not changed as much as the developing and changing communication style. The aim of this thesis is to examine the effects and relationships of high school students on the interpersonal communication of high school students through instant messaging programs, which have become rapidly popularized by the technological developments in the world and our country. In this study, the effects of technological developments on interpersonal communication were investigated. In this context, it is aimed to show the effects that the applications of instant messaging have on the interpersonal communication. The questionnaire form was applied by interviewing 450 students who were selected as the research sample with Bulancak Anatolian High School in Giresun and Bulancak Bahçelievler Anatolian High School and the obtained data were analyzed in SPSS 24.0 program. As a result of the analysis, it is seen that the 16 year old group is a critical age in terms of interpersonal communication effect of technology and that in the high school years before this age, communication of technology has not yet been fully effected; instant messaging applications are mostly used by personal mobile phones and 2 hours daily use is critical for interpersonal communication.
