Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the personality characteristics and rumination levels of kickboxing athletes. The sample of the study consists of athletes over the age of 18 who have participated at least in the Turkish championship and have an active license. Simple random sampling method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study and 347 athletes, 153 women (44.10%) and 194 men (55.90%) were included in the study. In addition to the Personal Information Form as data collection tools in the research, the athletes' gender, age, marital status, educational status, income status, residential area where they have lived for the longest time, duration of sports, duration of training per week, level of sportsmanship, injury status, etc. It consists of questions asked to the athletes about the extent of the injury, the source of motivation for the competition, the attitude of the family and the coach, and the status of being the sports person in the family. Five Factor Personality Scale and Sports Competition Rumination Scale were used to measure the variables in the study. SPSS 25.0 program was used to access the findings of the research. 95% confidence level was used for the analysis of the research and the following analyzes were made. Frequency and percentage analysis was performed to determine demographic characteristics. examined, while the kurtosis and skewness values of the measurement tools were examined. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to determine whether there was a relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable, and if so, the strength and direction of this relationship. Multiple linear regression analyzes were performed to examine the effect level of independent variables on the dependent variable. To examine the difference between the levels obtained from the measurements compared to categorical variables, independent sample t-test was used for demographic variables with two groups, and one-way ANOVA analysis was performed for demographic variables with more than two groups. P>0.005 was accepted as the level of statistical significance. According to the results of the correlation test, it was determined that if the rumination levels of the athletes increased, the dimensions of extraversion, agreeableness, self-control and openness to experience would decrease at a moderate level, and the dimension of neuroticism would increase at a moderate level (p=0.01); According to the regression analysis results, it was observed that 54.50% of the rumination level was explained by the 5-factor personality traits sub-dimensions (R2=0.545; p<0.05). Examining the personality and rumination levels of kickboxing athletes aims to provide a different perspective to the literature, and it is thought that the findings obtained as a result of the study will serve as an example for different studies to be conducted in the field.
