Özet (EN)
The concept of portrait in the field of art has continued its existence with different techniques and interpretations from the Middle Ages to the present day. The personal narratives of the artists are important in terms of opening a new window on portrait and expression in the works by interpreting them with the concept of expression through portrait works. The concept of portrait, which is discussed in different fields such as photography, sculpture, painting and literature, has constantly developed throughout the historical process and has continued to exist until today. Portrait in art has always been an effective way of expression in every period and has given meaning to the uniqueness of the subject. This research aims to analyze the concepts of portrait and expression by examining the portrait paintings created by reference artists based on their personal narratives, and the impact of personal narratives on the artist and the work. When depicting people in portraits, their expressions and emotional states are very important. While the artist conveys the model's expression during the portrait creation process, he also reflects his own narratives onto the portrait. Therefore, the emotional state and life of both the artist and the model are depicted together in the portrait. In this research, portrait is discussed through the art historical process and the works of artists in the context of personal narratives and the concept of expression. The artist, who is influenced by the society he lives in as well as different factors around him, transfers traces of his life to his work. In this regard, different situations such as the social structure of the artist, his mental state, and his perspective on life turn into a unique language of expression in the work as the artist's personal narrative. The artist conveys his work by integrating it with his own personal narratives. In the light of this information, the portrait works I created were based on personal narratives and forms of expression. During the research process, source scanning was conducted using qualitative research methods. Classifications were made with the data obtained on the subject, the formation of the concepts of portrait and expression in the historical process was taken into consideration, and the subject was enriched through works along with examples of artists. In the study, the concepts of portrait and expression are limited to the personal narratives of the reference artists.
